Midweek Connect - 5/5/21 ~ Cultures and Continents
Greetings and Happy Midweek,
Just a year ago, I began this Global SKILLs “Midweek Connect” journey with my first post here entitled “May Day Reconnect” (May 1st, 2020, see below). Since then, we have explored diverse topics together considering different perspectives and cultural customs, celebrating the value of legacy and the dynamics of innovation, discovering new facets of diversity.
Some weeks, we’ve lingered briefly with a memory or souvenir of a cross-cultural experience, other weeks we dug more deeply for additional insights and better understanding. I’m so glad some of you have reached out in response and I look forward to hearing from many more of you in the coming months.
So, here’s to ‘year two” of this journey together...aren’t cross-cultural communications and global community building GREAT?!
Moving forward, this week I thought I’d share a true story which beautifully illustrates the fact that this 21st century is indeed ‘connecting’ people in ways never before experienced - across cultures and across continents! It’s also a love story...so have some tissues ready but I’ll give this spoiler alert - it does have a ‘happy ending’ to date!
Once upon a time (as many wonderful stories begin), there was a young yoga teacher in northern India who nearly drowned one day. Thankfully she was saved by the brave efforts of a young stranger, a Hungarian financial advisor who lived in the Netherlands, was visiting India and happened to be on the same yoga retreat as the young woman! After recovering from their life-threatening moment of initial meeting, they began to get acquainted, realized they had many things in common despite being from different sides of the world and...well, it gets better - way better! Read the full story and marvel at the cultural breadth, depth and width of this couple’s choices and resulting experiences. How about you ~ I’d love to hear from each of you! Perhaps you’d like to share about a personal “across cultures, across continents” moment, experience or souvenir…
or perhaps suggest something you’d like me to explore in a future Midweek Connect.
Let’s celebrate Midweek Connect’s first anniversary together!
Until next week,
Betsy
