mid-week Connect: 8/24/22 ~ Cultural Stay-cationing
Greetings and Happy Midweek!
This week, we are going to do some traveling - but don’t get nervous! You won’t need luggage, reservations, covid tests or any other common travel related paraphernalia. And this cross-cultural experience will be an easy one - flowing from the HOST component of Global SKILLs 3D Dynamics.*
Stay-cationing, an English combination of ‘staying-at-home’ and ‘vacationing’ **, has been my summer go-to travel mode…and it’s been great! So much so, I decided to finish off the ‘official summer’ season this week with a stay-cation for us each to experience. Just grab a tall, icy glass of your favorite summer concoction, sit back and ENJOY!
First stop is just a click away. Use the key terms ‘virtual travel’ - and choose one of countless resources to ‘get away’. Museum, park, hike, flight to nowhere? By boat, train, a pathway along a hilltop, riding a yak - it’s up to you! Enter into your chosen destination - savor ALL you are seeing, ALL the people or animals are doing, ALL the unique sounds you hear and textures you can almost reach out and touch. Take a few screenshots and voilà…you’ve been there and have your souvenir!
Before you unbuckle your imaginary seat-belt and continue on with your day, take just a moment to appreciate the amazing stay-cation opportunities open to every single one of us. Where-ever we are in the world, we have access to the rest of the world at our fingertips. Cross-culturally, stay-cationing gives us the rare chance to observe and learn, without making in person blunders in host communities. It also allows us to think through challenging or confusing situations or exchanges - and file away insights for future real life experiences. Talk about win-win…
Ok, so admittedly, we do miss ‘real life’ benefits of actual travel - the smells and ‘feel’ of stepping into spaces and places, of interacting in person. But hey, for a few minutes - it’s just nice to get away, right?
How about for you ~ where did you stay-cation?
Share about that with a friend or note it here.
And check out the Global SKILLs LINKs below for a few stay-cations I plan to take…
Thanks for being part of this Connect community.
Until next week,
Betsy
