mid-week Connect: 2/29/24 ~ Leaping across cultures

Greetings and Happy Leap Year Day!

Given its unique space in calendars globally, I thought we would linger with some thoughts about Leap Year today and how it ‘translates’ cross-culturally. Our exploration fits into the Applications component of Global SKILLs PROACTive Framework providing insights by applying one culture’s interpretations to other cultures’ contexts. [*]

Leap Year is viewed both positively and negatively depending on where you are in the world. My own outstanding embrace of the day dates way back to when I was in college and took advantage of the superstition that a date requested of a guy on Leap Year Day would automatically be accepted. Oddly I do recall I tried it out, but don’t recall the results! But I digress…

As I surfed the net to find other Leap Year treasures, I was drawn to one which stated that the Day was added every fourth year to “keep the calendar in sync with the seasons” (see LINKs below). I love that image when thinking cross-culturally! Anything which can be done to keep things in sync is so valuable as we live and work globally including natural dynamics - but also important community dynamics like mutual understandings and equitable distribution of resources and opportunities - just to name a few examples…there are so many more!

I also was drawn to a figurative LEAP culture dynamic (see LINKs below) which comes out of corporate contexts but is applicable in any cross cultural dynamic. Aligning with our Global SKILLs perspectives, nurturing a LEAP culture includes Learning, Enjoying, Autonomy, and Performance. A helpful line-up of strategic practices to guide us thru any day to day, don’t you agree?!

How about you ~  what’s a LEAP year experience or LEAP culture choice you’d like to linger with?

Share about that with a friend or note it here.

And check out the Global SKILLs LINKs below for the sources I mention and a bit more on Leap Year worldwide.

Thanks for being part of this Connect community.

Until next week,

Betsy
