midweek Connect: 2/10/21 ~ The ‘Whole’ World
Updated: Mar 22
Greetings and Happy Midweek!
This week, as we continue to explore intercultural communications and community building together, I want to rise above some of the local, regional and even national concerns we each are facing where-ever we are in the world...and share some GLOBAL reflections.
I have always loved globes! From a very early age, they have intrigued and delighted me whatever form they take - from the simple, revolving ones many of us had in our schoolrooms as children to elaborately ornate ones we still see occasionally in public places of honor. I appreciate them for what they are and for what they represent, no matter what type of maps cover their surface (geographical, topographical, meteorological, socio-political...) and whether they are very current with all the most recently chosen place names or they depict quaintly antique notions of what the makers imagined their newly discovered ‘round world’ looked like. Check out the LINKs below for additional GLOBAL moments!
So, when I started my business just over a decade ago, the name Global SKILLs came to me quite spontaneously. The “Global” part reflects all of the above, but more broadly that I definitely tend to lean toward all things ‘global’, rather than linear or detailed (although of course all of these come into play at some point and each must be prioritized in certain contexts).
“Expanding my horizons” is something I realize I do quite naturally and, just as it is with a real globe, holding ‘the world in my hands’ has always been very special
** literally - as I have had the privilege and pleasure over many years of traveling to, living and working in distant places with diverse populations doing multi-faceted intercultural work
and also
** figuratively - as I explore domains outside my own, participate in collaborative multi-disciplinary projects and often just decide to learn something new!
How about for you - what’s a GLOBAL feature in your life which offers an insight or challenge?
Take a minute and share about that with a friend or share it here…
And in these challenging days, as we continue to grapple with a global pandemic, let’s try to celebrate positive GLOBAL moments, looking to ways thinking and working globally can inform and enlighten each and all of our journeys.
Until next week,
Betsy
